To all you daycare center owners – is it worth the investment?

I’m currently a family childcare provider in my home with 6 full time children. I am about to purchase a small building that will hold anywhere between 18 and 25 children with room to expand in the future. Is it worth my while or am I going to be paying more out than getting in? I just don’t want to make a costly mistake. Help!!!!

My friend owns a daycare center holding about 65 to 70 children and says it is VERY profitable and can’t keep up with all the ADDITIONAL babies and children!
My wife, in October, joined her friend in doing just what you’re doing. Research the costs very carefully prior to making the decision. If you’ve never run a stand-alone business before, there are all kinds of things that you probably are not yet aware of. The biggest challenges so far are: managing employees / payroll, collecting from 80+ sets of parents every week (and telling them that their child cannot attend due to past due balances), and maintaining the state, county and city licensing requirements for the larger groups after usually dealing with just 6.
I would recommend that you partner with someone with experience or hire the director of an existing center so that less of it is new to you.

Your question is a good one, however it can not be answered in detail on the internet. You should consider talking with a fee-based financial planner, he or she can really get to know your situation and recommend a stratagy thats best for you.

OMG!! is this for real?? I mean is this a real daycare or just ANOTHER stupid reality program?? These two idiots are really “caring” for other people’s children?? Two words – LAW SUIT!! Who thinks of these stupid show??
Melanie, I still have no real idea what I want to be when I grow up which makes the “what would you do if failure and money weren’t an issue” question hard for me to answer. Like I said, I’m mainly in a slump and having a pity party right now, so it’s probably best to take everything I say with a grain of salt for the time being =)

Space-time is like a fabric, and gravity is like a metal ball you place on the fabric (it distorts the space-time). At the center of a black hole is a singularity – an object with a radius of zero with nonzero mass. In other words, there is mass contained at a point in space.
This kind of density causes the gravity of the object to exceed the speed of light, and hence, anything moving the speed of light or slower (everything known to man) will be trapped within this "hole".
Black holes only have an escape velocity exceeding the speed of light for a certain radius from the singularity in every direction. If you were looking at a black hole diagram which depicted a metal ball on a two-dimensional fabric, the metal ball would be extremely heavy to cause a huge dip in the fabric. Only the bottom part of the dip would be the area which light cannot escape; the black hole. Outside this area would be severely distorted space-time.

I don't understand. Do you need more children? or do need more help? If you need more children I would consider running a special on child care.
Example: Offer a half off week for new clients, this will give parents the ability to try you out. Make sure you have them fill out applications and make appointments to meet the kids and parents. This will help bring in the kids, but make sure you are well prepared. Since your facility or home could probably only accomidate a certain number of children, I would limit the number of approved applicants for the trial offer. This will also weed out the clients that are looking for cheap short term child care. You could ask a near by peditrician if you can put flyers in his/her office.
